Perfect patch!!
I had a small hole on the side of a new vinyl chair and this patch made it disappear! Since I am slow writing this it has been 6 months of daily sitting and the patch is as good as day 1! Be sure to watch the how-to video.

Avoid this poorly designed product.
Failed product on several levels. Primary problem was the Vinyl Paste Adhesive, which is the bonding agent, had cured in its package and was unusable as a solid piece of hard rubber. The small colored paint containers weren't screw on-off but had to be pried open and the fabric backing was too small for any tear over about one inch. I tried substituting super glue for the defective vinyl paste then applying a paint mixture and found after 24 hours the paint was still wet. Photo: VINYL ADHESIVE PASTE- a block of solid rubber.

Awesome results - IF YOU IGNORE THE INSTRUCTIONS!
Awesome results - IF YOU IGNORE THE INSTRUCTIONS! The kit comes with a little metal disc which is supposed to transfer heat from an iron to the repair. It fails miserably. I just applied the iron (set on "linen") directly to the texture pattern square after filling in the vinyl tear with the repair goop. It worked beautifully! See results.

    Not a perfect match
I purchased this product as soon as I noticed a small tear in the leather. Didn't want this to become a major league project. I can tell where the couch was patched. If you didn't know then you probably wouldn't be able to tell. I read the instructions twice before proceeding with the repair and all went well. This repair has held up for two weeks now and was on the seat of a couch which gets a lot of use.

    Impressed
I was skeptical at first but gave it a try. Must follow directions exactly. Be aware that they called for a curling iron to heat the area but the iron is not shaped ideally. That was the only problem I had. The repaired area is smooth while the original seat is corragated but it did the trick and looks great. I was very pleased.

    It works, more or less
I bought the kit to repair tears in the vinyl seats of my 27-year-old truck. On the plus side, I don't have the tears anymore, and it was fairly easy to get a good color match. On the minus side, holding the heating tool on an iron and then transferring the heat through the texture paper is completely impractical. I used the iron directly on the texture paper, but it was awkward in some areas because the shape of the iron is not ideal. Also, it was hard to pull the fabric together to get a relatively smooth seam to fill in with the glue, so my repairs are kind of bumpy and definitely don't look original. A major problem with getting a good-looking repair is that the color compound sticks to the texture paper after maybe one good use, so when you heat the paper and compound and then pull off the paper, some of the compound comes with it, and you have to add another coating. Note that there are two containers of the filler glue; I used up one and then bought some other glue (3M Emblem and Trim Adhesive, or something like that) before realizing that I had the second container of glue in this kit.

I didn't think it would work!
I had a few fairly large splits and several smaller cracks along the stitching on the side of the driver's seat back. I really didn't think there was much hope but figured I didn't have much to lose. It isn't perfect but it is a great improvement. I was able to match the color pretty close but the repair adhesive is shiny compared to my seat finish. I had more success carefully using my curling iron to set the compound instead of the small tool they gave because I had a fairly large area I was working on. I wish they had a few more finish texture papers in the box. Be sure to keep the heat on for the length of time recommended no peeking or it just sticks to the paper.

    long time to dry...
I read and followed the directions. The adhesive had the consistancy of a thick paste and was difficult to apply to the tear in my leather. I let it dry for 4 hours like the directions said. The color I needed was a chocolate brown and was easy to make. The hardest part for me was getting the heat transfer tool hot enough from my iron, and then rolling it over the paper to get the brown adhesive to dry in the tear. I became frustrated with the time involved. I let it air dry for about 5 days, applying hot air from hair dryer 2 to 3 times a day. It finally got dry enough I could put the cusion back on the couch without worrying that it might get worse. It seems like 3M could come up with a better way to get the adhesive to dry.

    Good Leather patch kit
This product by 3M did a very good job of fixing small cuts and tears on two of my leather couches. I was able to mix the colors to get an exact match to my Teal leather without much effort. Next, the mesh with heat applier didn't really work that well. I followed all the instructions. However when I just let the color 'paint' just dry over night, it worked fine without the heat and fabric patch. Good enough job for a $10 kit!

    It works fairly well.
I was surprised that one needs an iron when using the kit. I have not owned an iron for many years now, but I was able to substitute a hotplate. I only used the black color so I do not know how well other colors would match. Grateful to have this product available to repair my vinyl seat.
