I should have never left Dyson
We had a Dyson in England. It was amazing. Since it was a 220 plug we had to buy another vacuum when we returned to the states. We didn't want to shell out the money for another Dyson so we went with cheaper alternatives. Yes, That is plural. We have gone through numerous vacuums. We finally gave in and decided to get another Dyson. I now remember why I love these vacuums so much. They are so powerful! Lots of different features and super easy to use and clean. I've included a picture of the before and after from the use of my Dyson. I never realized how little my other vacuums were actually picking up. The Dyson sucked the rug back to its true color!

It doesn't have much power in the upright position. Only has two settings floor and carpet. As a canister it has more power. Just not as good as the Dyson it replaced had the animal. And it had more settings for carpet. Should of returned this vacuum cleaner really don't like it. I have to go over spots several times before it will pick up things.

    Great Vacuum so far
So far, I've only had a chance to use the vacuum a limited number of times. Here is my pros and cons. Pros: 1) great suction - what it is known for 2) in floor vacuuming mode, very easy to move around if not constricted by space (see cons) 3) does have most attachments that you will need and they are all on board. 4) the price 5) relatively easy to move around. 17 lbs is not that big a deal to me but I could see it being an issue for some. Cons: 1) Extension wand is a little difficult to get loose but once loose is easily used. But, this is the reason for the 4 stars versus 5. 2) Head is a bit clunky and difficult to navigate in tight places. I realize that if I had purchased the roller ball model that possibly this wouldn't be an issue. But that model does come at a premium. 3) the switch to go from hard surface mode to carpet mode is a little hard to see which mode is which without getting down to it's level, but I'm guessing I'll get used to it. One would think with that many cons I would have given it 3 stars but for the most part issues 2 and 3 are relatively minor and I'm really not considering them in the overall rating.

    Returned after day 1
I bought this brand based on many friends' reviews. I was excited to give it a try but in the end unhappy with the vacuum. I have a slightly shag area rug, it really is not that high of a pile at all but with this vacuum it would signal that the roller was "clogged" and it would emit a loud noise and essentially not work (until I turned it off and restarted it). This cycle occurred over and over but only on that one rug. The Dyson rep state that it may be due to the fact that I had a carpet pad under it and it make for a bit of an uneven ridge under the rug that the vacuum could not handle. She did state that this had been a common complaint by some customers and unfortunately if it didn't work on my rug then returning it would be recommended. I brought it to Walmart for return, no issues and full price refunded to me. I bought a Shark Navigator Lift Away Deluxe instead and have had no issue with it.

    Great suction, hard to push
I am an active, healthy, 45 year old woman. I have mild arthrisits in a shoulder and opposite hand. I find this hard to push on carpet. I had a Dyson Ball last time so maybe I am spoiled and used to an easier push. Great on cat hair and litter. But when vacuuming forward, it leaves a one inch gap when it hits a wall or solid surface. You have to turn vac sideways and run along end of wall to clean. Weird quirk. It is also so large up front that in my kitchen, it can't get under lower cubboard lip. Cubboard overhand is about 3 inches. My Dyson Ball could go flat enough to get under there.Eli

Does not work on ALL carpet types
Worked fine on hardfloor but does not work on short carpet. The suction seems too much and it stops the brush bar rotating making a terrible noise as the clutch slips. Dyson told me there was no issue with the vacuum and it is the carpets fault!! I have owned Dyson vaccums for over 15 years and never had an issue. This vacuum was bought to replace a DC07 which work well on the same carpets. The customer rep told me they have the same issue with the DC40. I returned this and bought a Hoover model instead which works well on all my floors.

    Very Happy
This is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever had. I've been married for 39 years and we have had Hoover, sears and Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners and this Dyson cleans better than any one we have ever used over the last 39 years. I love it and it is worth the money.

    Nest vacuum ever
Have owner 5 vacuums in past 10 years. They always clog and lose suction over time. Last $250 had to take the hose apart to unclog after every use. No such problem with his DYSON and it was no more expensive than my last Hoover. This vacuum doesn't clog, easy to dump canister, has endless suction. I wish I had invested in this machine years ago.

    Clean air
It is recommended by doctors and safe for your children and pets to breath in the air because it is purified air that comes out. Highly recommend this product to parents.
