Excellent Customer Service
Lifetime stands behind its products within reason. We've had our hoop for nearly 2 years. There were some parts that were rusting out (we live in FL). They didn't flinch at sending the replacement parts that we needed. I can't thank the Sales Rep, Matt, enough for going above and beyond my expectations with this experience as I was willing to pay for a share of the costs. He had it covered and shipped out to us completely free of charge.

So Horribly Frustrating
Terrible!! This goal was purchased for our kids to have fun, but it has taken us DAYS to put together! The instructions are ridiculous, and it is so hard to set up. The bolts included are the wrong size, so prepare to buy your own, and have lots of tools on hand along with lots of help, because the whole process is very difficult and frustrating. It even says in the manual that you MAY have to bore out the holes to make them larger- You DEFINITELY have to do this. I don't understand why anyone would manufacture something so poorly. This was expensive and not worth all the trouble. No wonder people hire professionals to install these things!

Very, very heavy but would definitely recommend.
just got it installed yesterday. My husband is very anxious to use it. He was excited. BUT, you will need 3 strong persons to help install. It was very, very heavy. It went into place though. No problem with that. We would recommend it as long as you have some kind of help to install

Its a great cheap alternative to some of the more expensive ones out there, wish the backboard would have been a little better, it sounds like a drum every time the ball hits it. Overall it took longer to assemble than to dig the hole

    My new hoop system
It should have frame to bolt on instead of complete in ground pole. The edge protectors has holes which is good but not the back board which makes hard to drill The instructions are bit confusing and images are small on some pages. It should be clear and big so the customer can understand. Overall, it looks good and best value for the money. I just bought and installed it this week. Let's hope it will look good in years to come.

    Nice price, hard set up
This basketball hoop does the trick for a nice price BUT beware... set up was a nightmare. My husband is extremely handy and this gave him so much trouble. The instructions sucked, he had to compromise many times. It took him a total of 4 hours to put this together.

Assembly was rough, but otherwise we love it.
Bad news: The directions were horrible. Also the pieces that were milled to put together were done very sloppily. My husband professionally installed basketball hoops for years so he thought this would be easy. Two hours later we were finished. Just saying make sure you have the time and the patience, especially if you're a newbie. We expected more from Lifetime, a company we trust. Good news: The hoop and the pole itself have been loved so far and hopefully will hold up for years. And not a bad price!

    good for the price
a decent in ground system. I highly recommend getting a ground sleeve as well. it makes installation much easier. the backboard seemed a bit flimsy. However, once the system was up it held up well. the system looks cosmetically appealing. It does take a good 90 minutes at least to install. The directions are terrible. You have to improv a few things. You absolutely need 2 people at least to put together and install. I also bought a lifetime ground sleeve, which I was able to install myself. For the price you can't do much better. a overall a very good in ground system. I did a ton of research prior to buying and this seemed to be the best system in this price range.

    Great for the kids!
I purchased this item because of the price and the reviews I read here. Based on what I read on the reviews found here, this product was exactly what I was expecting. I installed this system last weekend and our kids have been playing on it non-stop. It's not super-sturdy, but it is definitely sufficient for anyone looking to have a basketball hoop on their property at an affordable price. I followed the instructions to "T" with one exception: I dug a 12'' x 36" hole instead of the 18" x 24" hole stated in the instructions. I used a manual post hole digger for the hole; this took about 1.5 hours from the time I broke ground until the time I was ready to pour concrete. I installed this system using the 3.5" (diameter) x 18" in-ground sleeve others recommended here. I also used a 12" cardboard cylinder from the hardware store instead of using rebar during the install of the concrete. I used roughly 300 lbs. of concrete mix when I installed this basketball system. Concrete pouring lasted about 30-45 minutes from start to finish. Then, came the assembly of the pole/backboard while the concrete was setting. Assembly of the entire pole/backboard took about 3-4 hours. I thought the directions were very precise and fairly easy to follow; most of the diagrams are very detailed and this makes assembly much easier when sorting through all of the parts that come in the box. Some of the fittings are a little "snug", but nothing that a little tap from a hammer couldn't take care of. I had absolutely no issues with the hardware (nuts, bolts, etc.) that came with the kit. Others here have stated that they didn't receive all the parts or were provided wrong size bolts, etc. I didn't have any of these issues; I received all hardware required (even had 1 extra washer and self-tapping screw after completing assembly). I finished assembly of the pole/backboard and let the concrete cure for 2 days before I completed assembly. I would say I spent about 10 hours total with a little help from my 8-year old son (8 to 9 hours digging the hole, pouring the concrete, and assembling the rest of the pole/backboard and an additional hour doing the final install two days after the concrete cured). This basketball system works great for us; we have young kids and they really enjoy it. It was well worth the price and I would buy one again.

    Exactly what you expect.
Read the reviews -- ALL the reviews -- and you will get a really good picture in your mind of what to expect. The basket ball goal seems to be of good quality -- but there are challenges you must face during the build stage... The box the item is shipped in is terribly flimsy. Luckily, nothing fell out of my box, and the backboard was not broken. THURSDAY AFTERNOON: We took everything out of the box, and laid it out in the garage for easy picking when needed. Inventory went well (we actually had some extra parts), but the plastic bags are NOT labeled to show what is inside. This leaves a little bit of guess work, and is irritating. There is already printing on the bags -- Lifetime should just print the part numbers on the bag for easy identification. FRIDAY AFTERNOON: The first step is to dig a huge hole, and use 15 bags of 50# cement. We only used 11 bags of cement, despite following the directions exactly. While the concrete set for the next three days, we assembled the basketball goal in the garage. SATURDAY: Despite the instructions saying three adults could put this basketball goal together, we were challenged with four adults. The first few pages of the instructions only show 2 or 3 parts and are easy to follow -- but the instructions become much more complicated with the turn of each page. Images are too small and not detailed enough to figure out exactly what needs to be done. Be ready to take things apart after you install them! Also, I used a 4-pound sledge hammer, and used the outside wall of my brick house to try to seat the poles as instructed -- it's simply not possible, as the 2x4 piece of wood eventually split in half (and the poles were STILL not seated as required by the instructions). SUNDAY: Day of rest. Mother's Day. We couldn't work on it at all, because our mothers and wives are so darned demanding... :) MONDAY AFTERNOON: We put the final parts together, and installed the poles with the previously described 4-pound sledge hammer. Again, it is not possible to install the poles as instructed, as the second piece of wood split in three places (and the poles were STILL not seated as required by the instructions). SUGGESTIONS: 1) The edges of the backboard are EXTREMELY SHARP -- I cut myself twice on Monday afternoon (completely filleted my index finger once, and just a normal cut on my thumb a second time). I did not see a warning in the instructions, and it would be really easy for Lifetime to simply bevel the sharp edge a little to get rid of that razor sharp edge! 2) Lifetime needs to include the thickness of the powder coat in their assembly process. There is absolutely NO WAY we could have assembled this basketball goal without that 4-pound sledgehammer. Bolts didn't fit into holes without several taps from the sledgehammer. The three part 10-inch pole never did properly fit together -- even WITH the 3-pound sledgehammer. 3) Lifetime needs to reconsider the order in which the parts are installed. It is nearly impossible to install the raising/lowering arms on the 10-inch pole with the backboard and hoop already installed. The hoop should be installed LAST, so you can lay the backboard FLAT and easily install the raising/lowering arms on the 10-inch pole. 4) After getting to page 44 of the instructions (with only 7 pages to go), we decided to ignore the instructions, take OFF the raising/lowering arm, and install the basketball goal in the order that actually makes sense. After we deviated from the instructions, the assembly went very smoothly and without much stress. In all, we spent about 8 hours putting it all together (not including time waiting for the concrete to dry). The finished product is AWESOME -- my three kids and I absolutely love it! Just be prepared to be frustrated (and add some blood, sweat, and tears) during the assembly process. :)
