Nextbook Ares 11.6 Android Base
Negatives; There are inconsistent issues with the Keyboard 7 Screen Connection. Purchased this for my Son's Christmas, I'm now on my 4th one. Latest issue "All have been Keyboard/Tablet Connect issues, just different things. The Screen will only recognize the keyboard with its open approximately 2/3rd open, witch is not acceptable. I'm surprised I'm not reading More on the internet about keyboard issues. ALL 4 of the Tablets I'm had have this issue, just not he same one. (1) move the keyboard, the screen would stop and restart the movie. (2) When plugging in the headphones the keyboard would blink on and off and the audo would completely stop. (4) Mentioned above. Positives; IF you can use a nice Tablet and NO Keyboard, I think this is awesome. 64g internal memory add an additional micro SD card up to 64g. Love that feature. My Son Loves his movie so I have several 64g cards with all his movie, just pop in the one I need when needed. Not to speak of the 8 hour battery. It actually worked almost 8 hours on our across county Airport tours. I was ginger about battery conversation, but impressed. Summary; My son will NOT be use the keyboard, it was mainly to have a platform for the tablet to be a lap device without an additional cover. I have to convince myself that I'm willing to keep this tablet with the keyboard issue and get a case that would act as the base/platform, adding cost, so why not look at a more expensive Android device. I have 5 more day to decide before my 15 days runs out. Hope this straight forward review helps. Might buy it and if it does not work for you , you have 15 days to return to a local Walmart.

With so many Walmart electronics purchases being defective and not working right out of the box or soon thereafter, I was reluctant to purchase this from Walmart but so far (2 weeks) so good. Here's hoping!

    Nice tablet
This tablet seems to do everything that we wanted it to do. The reason that we made the purchase was to download programs from Directv to watch while traveling. The HDMI port also allows connecting to a television.

Top 10 Review of Nextbook Ares 11 2 in 1.
Over the last few years, I bought two Nextbook tablets along with many other brands. I like the Nextbook brand and answer questions in the Walmart forum on these and many other tablets and laptops and All-in-Ones. While I was on the Nextbookusa web page confirming a question, I saw this tablet/keyboard for the first time. A 11.6 inch wide angle IPS screen, a backlit keyboard, 64GB of system memory, three USB ports, Android 5.0 (Lollipop), a 10 hour battery, and under 4 pounds ( 3 lbs, 1 oz. for both the tablet and keyboard) and $200 and I had to have it! I have had it about a week and a half and used it extensively - below are my observations: DOCUMENTATION - Nextbook has always had superior documentation and this one is no exception. Printed 18 page Instruction Manual, printed 6 page Quick Start Guide, 2 page FAQ's, and 3 page Keyboard Instructions. In addition, there are 2 Apps on the tablet. CONSTRUCTION - Very good. Both the tablet and keyboard are solid and look good. The back of both are finished in a dull black that is easy to hold but is a fingerprint magnet. The attachment of the keyboard to the tablet is secure but has some rocking when joined. It looks good with the blue stripe around the tablet. TABLET - Excellent tablet. A bright wide angle view IPS 11.6 inch screen. Thin and light (1 lb, 10 oz.). Touchscreen is very responsive. The tablet has ports for micro USB (2.0), micro HDMI, Micro SD card, and 3.5mm Headset/Microphone. The tablet is very fast on benchmarking tests (Antutu benchmark = 34,364, and Quadrant Standard = 18,433). These are the second highest scores of any of my Android devices (and I have lots of them). I have 12 tabs in Chrome Browser and the page loads are fast. The micro USB port in the tablet and the two full size USB ports in the keyboard will work with a mouse, keyboard, and flash drives. I could not get them to work with a portable USB hard drive or a CD/DVD drive. KEYBOARD - Only fair. It looks good and is OK to type on. It was built for a Android device and has lots of speciality keys for Android. The touchpad is responsive and quick. It has three LED lights for power, caps, and backlight. But the contrast between the black keys and the lettering is poor (see my picture below, the Nextbook is in the middle) and the backlight does not help in low light situations. I don't have another backlight keyboard for comparison, but this keyboard does not illuminate the characters, or letters, or numbers on the keys. It just has blue lighting around all the keys. That is no help for me. OPERATION - Android 5.0 (Lollipop) is very nice. Lots of new things and improvements. You need to take some time to explore all the features. Most Apps now run in Full Screen mode by default and can leave you looking for your control keys. Swipe down from the top of the screen and you will have your Back, Home, and Recent Apps keys on the bottom border. If none of this works, the tablet has a physical Home key in the back. Older Android devices can have memory problems, so I tested this one - I downloaded many of my over 300 Apps that I have used on my other Android devices from the Google Play Store one after the other until I had 151 Apps (4.77GB). Not a single problem downloading them and running all that I tried. And I still had 46.93GB free memory. Some other reviews have remarked about the 1 GB of RAM memory. I started and ran 22 Apps together. All of them worked fine when made active again (a few would have to reload some cache). If this were a Windows system, it would be crippled with 1GB of RAM, but Android uses memory differently and does not need the same amount of RAM as Windows. It has Bluetooth and good WiFi. In spite of a GPS choice in Settings, it does not have GPS Hardware. It will find a position using Google Location if set that way. 2 in 1 - In addition to Tablet and Laptop modes, if you reverse the tablet on the keyboard, you can get Presentation and Tent modes like more expensive devices. The tablet is not heavy, but holding it for a long time in one hand gets tiring. In Presentation mode the keyboard holds the tablet easily at any angle on a desk or on your lap. Like others, the keyboard is not powered when the tablet is reversed in the keyboard. BATTERY - I do a battery calibration on all my Android devices. Using the Battery App from the Google Play Store, I got the following battery run times: (Screen brightness set about 70%, keyboard connected, and Battery Saving setting turned off.) Music Playback = 16 hrs, 30 min. Video Playback = 7 hrs, 4 min. Internet Browsing = 7 hrs, 4 min. Talk Time (VoIP) = 7 hrs, 4 min. Reading = 9 hrs, 44 min. At less than $200, this 2 in 1 is equal or better than several of my other Android devices that cost more than twice as much. I like it a lot.

    Good tablet for the price!
I purchased this almost a week ago and thought I would share my initial impersonation of it. First of all, it is not perfect (but what tablet is?) by for the price, there is nothing like this on the market. As far as how well it will hold up over time, that has yet to be determined, but I will give some initial impressions! First, the good things about the tablet! 1. 64 GB of storage! How often do you see that in a budget device? You do not!! And it is upgradeable using a microsd card. 2. The screen is bright and clear. The display is sharp even though the resolution is pretty much standard. 3. The screen is very responsive when navigating from app to app. 4. The price! Under $200.00!! 5. Back lit keyboard. The tablet would have been worth $197.99 even without the keyboard. 6. The keyboard has two full sized USB ports! 7. GPS! 8. Good build quality Cons: 1. The 3D graphic chip on this tablet is not too fast, or just does not like certain games. Sky Force 2014 runs very smooth, but Asphalt 8 is very choppy and crashes quite a bit unless the graphic settings are turned down to very low. I also tried installing two 3D launchers (Next and TSF Shell) and neither would run. This may be a disappointment to some folks, but this is probably not the best gaming tablet out there, even at this price. 2. The case is a fingerprint magnet and smudges easily. 3. Camera is not great although that is something I can care less about. I guess it would be OK for using in Skype. Anyhow, I hope that gives everybody a little bit of a hands on opinion about this tablet. Overall I am happy with it and I hope it continues to impress me as I evaluate it more this week!

Only Walmart could do this Tablet at this price!
Just amazing. The only other true internal 64GB Android tablet that I know of is the Samsung Galaxy Pro, but that tablet is $749.00. This is really unpresedented in the Android tablet world. A 64GB tablet. with a super fast 1.83 GHZ Intel Quad Core Processor with an 11.6 inch IPS screen, for under $200 dollars?!?!?! Unbelievable! I own many budget tablets. The Drgaon Touch A1X Plus, RCA Pro 10.1, Neutab 10.1, Sero 8 and the Simbans Ultimax. None of those can hold a candle to this tablet. This is like getting a $700 tablet for $197. Thanks Nextbook and Walmart for this amazing deal. Will be grabbing a couple of the Windows Flexx 8.1 11.6 inch tablets when they are released. Hope they will be $249 or less. (This tablet cost less than my pocket TRS-80 did back in the 1980s and that was just a glorified calculator!) :P
