Works as advertised
I purchased this product to stop the rusting of the wheels on my car where they are exposed through gaps in the wheel covers. The wheels were originally black, and had become rust-colored, but the rust had not progressed to the point where the metal was pitted. I had hoped that the Rust Reformer would turn the rust black, both stopping more rust from forming, and eliminating the need for painting. It did react with the rust and turn it mostly black, but there was still a hint of rust color in spots, so I followed the directions and topped it with a light coat of paint after waiting 24 hours. The wheels look great now, and I don't expect them to rust again. I used a similar product on the rusted cast-iron hardware on my 1930's garage door some 20 years ago, and it has only now started to rust again. I plan to use the Rust Reformer left over from this project to touch it up so I can go another 20 years.

Keep your vehicle a little longer.
Love this stuff, I apply it to the bottom of my car doors and tailgate. Anywhere that are common problem rust spots up here in the Northeast. It slows that nasty rust down.

High hope it will work like a similar Navy product
Seems to work great. Would have to come back in a year to give a truly accurate assessment. I used a similar product in the military so I have high hopes.

Converts very shallow, surface rust only
I prepped the rusted steel areas to be treated with the Rust-Reformer product by first scrubbing it with SOS pads, then rinsing, then scraping more heavily rusted areas to remove "rust bumps and flakes" then wire brushing all rusted areas. The product is easy to apply and clean-up is a breeze since it is water-based. It goes on white and gradually changes over to black as it dries. After one coat, I was surprised and disappointed to see that under direct sunlight areas of rust colored metal were visible under the first coat of the product in the same areas where scrapping removed the "rust bump and flakes." Apparently scrapping and wire brushing are not sufficient to properly prep the deeply rusted areas. Had I known, I would have fired up my palm sander to take the heavily rusted areas down to almost bare metal. Where the rust was slight/superficial. the product did indeed convert the rust to a black inert surface. Too bad its penetrating power isn't up to snuff for more heavily rusted areas. Additional coats of the product over the the areas that had deeper rust did not penetrate the first coat and left the rusted areas visible under two coats when viewing under direct, full sun. So be prepared to really prep the surfaces if you have anything BUT shallow, surface rust only.

    Unsure of Effect
I bought this for the underside of a rusting lawn mower. I brushed it on. I am unsure of how well it's going to work as it did NOT turn the rust black as I am told it should. It also took a few days to dry--but this could be due to the cold temps in my basement. I read on line that I should not have poured back unused portions into the container. Unfortunately for me, it does not say this anywhere on the container. In short, I don't know if I wasted my time & $ brushing this stuff on.

    Great product
Followed the directions, wire brushed a spot, washed, dried, applied and it was maybe a little longer than 15 minutes but not more than 30 and the rust was black. It appears to leave a gloss clear coat. I'll prime and paint after three days as instructed.

    I'm impressed
I have a lot of problems with the rest of my RV trailer frame. I tried rust remover's and they didn't work very well, I tried this stuff and it works great! Because I had to brush it on however I would not use it where it's real visible. It's not even enough. I was able to paint right over it with paint after it dried

This is an excellent product; I have used it for years. Quick dry and water clean-up. I have used the aerosol and the this brush on, but I find the brush on is the best. Follow the directions on the container---its put on there for a reason. Top coat as directed thereon and you'll get good results.
