They are true to size though if you have a 3 1/2 year 9ld I suggest getting the 4t as our 3 1/2 year old was a preemie and petite. The 2t 3t combo size was too tight around her legs. 4t worked perfect. We wash in cold and hang dry to keep the little ones laundry looking nice amd lasting.Jessica

They run a bit small around leg openings. Our 3 yr old who was a preemie fits best in 4t and she won't be 4 for 5 more month. She is in the 50 percentile for size. She has a average build.Jessica
