Flexible, Expandable, Great shelving!
This product arrived as expected, it was a two person job to put together. It took under an hour to get together. Only tools required were screwdrivers. It is as pictured. Looks very nice!

Can't hold the weight of itself
Bought this for my home office, I needed more shelf space than I had and I liked the fact I could put it in the corner. However I never even got that far. It busted before I could get it put together. Two of the shelves broke before I could finish putting it together. Unfortunately I can not return it because I am out past the return window because, well because life happens.

Shelves Too Short To Store Folders/Binders
If you're looking for a decorative shelf this might work, but if you're using it for office use, please refrain from purchasing. The shelves are two different heights and the higher shelves can barely fit a binder. If I had known how short the height of the shelves were, I wouldn't have purchased these. The unit looks a lot bigger in the pictures because it has five shelves, but since the height of the shelves are so short the entire unit is only 5ft. Now I don't know what I'm going to do with these as I can't store any of my binders and folders. Do I just lay them flat and stack them up? Ughh spent so much time putting it together and do not want to haul this 150lbs back to Walmart to return. I also agree with the other folks on the quality. It's such cheap quality - it chips/scratches so easily. It's also really heavy so you think it'll be sturdy, but it's wobbly and the adjusting part swivels easily. I guess it was wrong of me to expect much from a <$100 shelving unit. I've included comparable pics of the two sizes of shelves next to my reg/standard sized binder.

I love the shelf but it's delicate.FedEx is trash
So I ordered this shelf on Amazon and FedEx lost it. Then reordered it on Amazon, and FedEx lost it again. So finally I ordered from here because Walmart ended up having the same sale, and they also shipped through FedEx and of course, FedEx lost it AGAIN!! (Third time for a 98 pound box?!). So Walmart was great and sent it to me again and fourth time was the charm. Putting it together wasn't hard it just took a while. But make sure you put it together where you're going to put it. Because moving it across the room was difficult. The top part ended up warping when we moved it as two separate pieces and it cracked at the shelf part because of the weight. Seems more like particle board. But it's holding up strong and still looks good. Hoping to maybe get a replacement board for this one part

    CHANGEABLE BOOKCASE-CONSOLE
I received this Homestar Flexable and Expandable Shelving Console. I really like this wall unit! They say its a contempary style but I am traditional style and it goes well with my decor. I really like that you can have a single book case with five shelves or you can expand it and have double the space with ten shelves. And again to change it up you can turn one side in and have an L shaped wall unit. How cool is that!!!! It says it takes two people to put it together. I put it together by myself but I would definately use two people though to lift, expand and turn the wall unit. It is hard to do it by yourself and I had the bottom shorter than the top so hence reason for having two people to expand the wall unit. I didn't like that the stickies to cover the screws were all creased and wrinkles so they don't lay flat that well and the felt stickies to help the sliding didn't stick to the shelf very well. Actually four of them had no stick at all. Each shelf is 21.5 inches wide x 10 inches in height and 12 inches deep. It is all open storage so you can display photo's, knick knacks and expecially all your books. I would definately recommend this Homestar Flexable and Expandable Shelving Console.

Think about how you want to use this unit before s
The initial assembly of this shelving unit is pretty simple. The assembly instructions say 2 people can put it together in 40 minutes. It took me about 2 hours to get to Step 12 by myself, but now I have to wait for someone to help me stand it against the wall and use a drill to secure it. The shelving is heavy and once it's in place, I don't think it's a good idea to move it around. You have 3 options to set up: (1) stretched out horizontally into a double bookcase (2) a vertical bookcase, or (3) a corner bookcase, which is what I decided on because it looks the most sturdy when set up. The instructions are OK, mostly just following the drawings on each step. The screws, dowels, cam locks and such come grouped in 10 different plastic bags (with another little bag of extra parts). You will need wood glue for the dowels, a flat head and a phillips head screwdriver. The instructions show a drawing of a drill with an X through it, but I don't know what that means because the last step tells you to use a drill to attach the unit to the wall. There are minimum written instructions in the manual. I didn't have any problems with chipping or shredding as I put the unit together, even though it is described as laminated particle board, which I've had bad luck with on other assembled furniture in the past. The maximum weight capacities are listed as 16.5 lbs per shelf section, so I intend to weigh each group of items I put on them. I'm a little concerned about all the warnings in the instruction manual, so I'm going to fix it to the wall even though only options 1 & 2 are recommended to do so. It is a nice looking unit, and once I'm sure it is secure and won't fall over, it will come in handy for storing books and other odds and ends.

Looks great but is NOT SECURE!
Pros: The packaging of the bookshelf was great and adequately protected all of the pieces. It was pretty easy to set up and all the parts were clearly labeled. It still took a little time to fully assemble, but it wasn't bad. Also, be sure to assemble it in the room that it will stay in. The console is extremely heavy, once assembled, and difficult to move. Additionally, it doesn't take up much room and can be expanded, rotated, angled, etc. That is a fantastic feature! The material is not real wood. It's cheap, particle board made to look like wood; therefore, you have to remember not to put too much pressure on it when putting it together. At times, it felt like it could easily fall apart. Nevertheless, the black finish looks so nice that you can't tell. It really blends in nicely with the other furniture that I have in the kids' room. The height is perfect for storing books, DVDs, toys, etc. Cons: It is really not secure and balanced. It seemed like it would easily tip over on the carpeted floor. We added some weight to it, but I was still concerned. Using the straps to secure it to the wall probably would prevent that from happening. However, I don't want holes in the wall, and I have a tendency to relocate and move around our furniture. Therefore, we ended up lying it flat on the floor and using it as cubbies for the children's' toys. Overall, this is a very nice piece of furniture. It is not wood, but you cannot tell just by looking at it. However, the fact that you need to secure it with straps to the wall is a huge drawback, and I would not recommend this console to anyone.

Easy to assemble with a modern look
Console arrived in great condition. Box was pretty heavy though. I needed my husband's help to get it to my daughter's bedroom downstairs. Taking every piece out of the box did take some time (around 15 minutes). All pieces were adequately labeled and in good condition. Materials seem sturdy. From start to finish, this console took me about 2 hours to assemble by myself. Instructions were easy to follow and no parts were missing. Instruction booklet also gives weight limit for each shelf which I found helpful. I did need extra help when I completed the assembly to lift console off floor and position where my daughter wanted it. Make sure to secure it into the wall as this console is quite heavy when finished and could tip over. We went with the two column look, but this can easily be adjusted to the corner look (just a quick lift and turn!). I love the dark finish and the different insets of the shelving. As this console went into my daughter's room, I let her place what she wanted in the shelves. I am looking to purchase some storage boxes to straighten the look more. This piece looks great! I am going to purchase one to go into my son's bedroom too. A definite recommendation!

A Console that Helps Beat Clutter
The Homestar Flexible and Expandable Shelving Console may be a great product for you if you are looking to de-clutter an area or if you are looking to beautify your space by adding shelving. The console can be configured in three ways (which explains the word "flexible" in the title of the product): 1.) with shelves pulled out so that there are two sides to the console, 2.) with shelves pushed together to form a one-sided console (like a bookcase), and 3.) with sides pulled apart and corners together forming a v-shape that can be used in a corner. Before beginning with assembly, it is important to decide which option is desired so that you can follow the proper directions. The directions are straight-forward. Along with words, there are diagrams. The necessary tools include a phillips head screwdriver, a flat head screwdriver, and wood glue. The wood glue is added to each hole to strengthen the console. Keep in mind that the tools are not included. Homestar recommends that the console be attached to a wall. Obviously, you would need to perform this step before adding items to your shelving. Once your shelving is up, the only maintenance needed is a wipe down with a slightly dampened cloth or a duster - no cleaners needed and certainly no abrasive cleaners. The Homestar Flexible and Expandable Shelving Console is a great find. It has brought some organization into a cluttered space in my home. The shelves are sturdy. And, the overall look is impressive. Keep in mind in the pictures below that I was organizing a cluttered space. The room was still a work-in-progress when I took the pictures.

    Great for Storage
I receive Homestar expandable Shelving Storage Bookcase, Color Espresso. I pick Sunday to put this bookcase together, first I put the pieces of wood into piles by numbers that are on the sides of each piece. This has a lot of pieces so I lay it out by number helped make it easy for me. They give you extra pieces for attaching like, screws, wood peds, soft pads, thin nails, and other things. You need wood glue for the wood peds are in nearly each piece, and a hammer. The directions took me a few minutes to figure out, I did one part at a time. When each part was done I started do sections, all on my rug. It took me 2 hours to put together. It was not to hard to put together it just takes a lot of time to put together. Together total is nine shelves. I am not using the expandable part of this shelving storage bookcase. I am using the five shelves, for when you read the instruction it says to attached to wall to ensure not tipping over. The shelves can take up to 25 pounds. Each piece was a nice color of espresso, no chips and cracks. After putting together it was not easy to move being 88 pounds, and I was alone (two people would make it easier). Somehow I pick the bookcase and waited a few minutes, then got the bookcase into my clothes closet.
