Have caught many 5+ ft long alligator gar and 25+ inch redfish on the 5000, combo the Pursuit 3 rod holds up better than the pursuit 2's, will try the pursuit 4.

    Great peir and surf combos.
    I purchased 2 of the 7 foot medium rods with the 4000 reel. They aren't as nice as the battle combos. But for everyday peir and light surf fishing these are perfect. They are made well and seam like they will last. And for the money I don't think you can go wrong. I hooked into what I can only assume was a very large skate or ray on the peir and it ran almost the entire spool out. But the drag and rod handled it very well. Never missed a beat. I'm happy with the quality of these combos for the price point. Would purchase again.

    Excellent quality, great balance and stability. Only problem is Penn never included use and care instructions? They would be nice to have. If you are looking for an affordable combo this is it.

    Good rod love it, but the package could've been way better the top half of the rod was not packaged with nothing around it and was beat around in the box with holes in the box from where it bounced around.

    Great line for the budget minded
    Great affordable setup. I fish a minimum of four days a week. These things hold up and take a licking. I'd say best bang for your buck the pursuit lineup can't go wrong for a combo around 60 bucks I have the 4000 and 6000 setups. All saltwater use weekly and daily use.

    The box was bent and damaged the reel had been removed and put back in. The bail was bent but I was able to straighten it.

    Poor shipping.
    First shipment of 2 rods - 1 was A.O.K., the other had rod tip broken off. Got replacement in 4 days - yea! Oops - replacement rod was shipped with one eye offset about 30 radially degrees from the others. Was going to return it, but only option was refund. I threaded it up and it doesn't alter the line path. Now to see how it reacts with a fish on.

    I've had this combo for some time now and I can't say anything bad about it. Has a great drag the ratio is very high, when reeling in it's 2 times much faster than my Shimano 4500 and my Shun Tong 6000. This Penn Pursuit III has everything I need when fishing off the rocky shores, on the beach or on a boat off shore fishing. I purchased this combo on April 25, 2022 and will buy it again if I get a chance. A good pice of fishing gear.

    Awesome saltwater combo!
    I bought my pursuit 2 combos before we went on vaca last year. We take a trip down to the outer banks every year so a solid saltwater setup was necessary. This has exceeded my expectations. I love it. The reel is so smooth an the drag system is amazing. Rod is nice an strong an can handle throwing 5oz pyramids with no problem. Have always loved Penn products an will continue to use them. Thanks again Penn.
