Great tank-but they leak. (I bought two)
I NEVER write reviews but feel I have to this time. I bought two of these-one for each of my betta fish. One of them started leaking water rapidly the first day it was in use. Made a huge mess and I had to take everything out of it. Ended up being a very time consuming ordeal. The other one I've had set up a week or two and now it's starting to leak too. I'm very upset about it. I don't have time or patience to keep doing this. Now I'm going to have to tear this one down and return it to the store as well (if they'll take it back after this much time has passed). I've never had issues like this before. I've ordered a lot of tanks online from Walmart and other stores and these are the only tanks I've ever had that leaked. It has to be a flaw in the production or how they seal them. The seal does look pretty wonky. This picture was taken not even ten minutes after wiping up a larger pool of water at the base of the tank. I can't pinpoint where the leak is coming from so I'm not going to be able to fix it.

1.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser04/01/2023Leaks only after 2 monthsBought this tank 2 months ago for a couple goldfish. This morning there was water on the table. Upon inspection the tank is leaking from the lower right seal/joint. I realize this was an inexpensive setup but still should last longer than 2 months. Now that we have fish living in it I am forced to buy and set up another tank.Rebecca

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser01/25/2023Excellent ValueBought this tank as an upgrade for my female Betta since she's outgrown her old tank. She's quite happy in this one; the filter doesn't put off too strong of a current for Bettas and there's a good amount of horizontal space for them to swim. You will need to add a heater unless you get coldwater fish since this kit doesn't come with one. It would be more expensive to buy all of these components separately, so if you're starting up a whole new tank I'd happily recommend this one.Nicole

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser01/27/2022My kids love it!Great quality at a great price! It comes with everything that you need to get started. Everything except the gravel and plants, of course. We went to our local pet store and couldn’t find a glass tank of this size at this price point. This little tank is a great value. The filter is also very quiet. I had a 3 gallon tank years ago and the filter it came with was WAY louder. Overall, it’s a good tank and my kids are loving it.Jess

3.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser01/15/2022Dirty upon opening but decent. filter isn't quietI think the one I purchased had some kind of dead bugs in it. Everything besides the tank was clean and easy to put together. I've had no issues with the lights as others seemed to have. No leaks or issues. It is a nice sized tank. The directions say you can pop out the openings for the light wire and filter but I think that is only for the larger tanks, it was not true for the 5 gallon. The "whisper" filter is not quiet at all. It isn't horrible however I expected it to be almost unable to be heard and it isn't. The opening for food is good and has a decent amount of space. The lights give a decent amount of light with no heat. For a quick starter tank for 1 or 2 fish this is good. Other than the tank being dirty upon opening and filter not being very quiet I would recommend it.Nene1890

I putting in live plants and the small led light is not bright enough for plants. I am just starting to set it up, no completed yet. Might get new hood. so really you are paying for the tank and filter which is good and quiet. going to purchase a beautiful Betta and let him swim away!lili

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser02/12/2021Perfect for bettaI will update my review if anything changes but so far, no problems with leakage, improper sidings, etc. and my betta and I love it! it is a very sturdy tank. Filter is surprisingly quiet, bring the water level up as high as possible without overflow for lowest noise. The lid is simple and convenient. Would buy again!Erin

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser06/12/2020The best starter tank out there for a good price! This fish tank comes with the basics a filter and light. I am very satisfied with the quality of this tank for the price. My betta loves it. The filter has adjustable flow and is very quiet. You can easily fit all the decorations one would want in this 5 gallon tank. The recommended amount of fish in this tank is 5 tropical fish or 2 cold water fish. I'd did a lot of research and cost benefit analysis before buying this tank and I am so glad I decided to buy this one. I added a heater and thermometer. This starter pack does not come with any plants or gravel.Katie

3.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser09/30/2017Good for the moneyI have been keeping freshwater fish for many years, off and on. As many other reviews have stated, this is the perfect size for one betta. If you're planning on keeping two, I would recommend a 10 gallon or larger with a divider that is NOT see-through. I am currently using this tank as a temporary home for my male Betta Ernest, as well as 6 other tropical fish until my larger tank cycles. The slimline hood is really nice. Nothing too obtrusive. The filter is this kits' only real drawback. It does have flow control which is nice especially for a betta or other species that aren't strong swimmer. The included filter does NOT have biological filtration, so you have to watch ammonia levels like a hawk. Tanks this size need much more upkeep than a larger tank, as pH, nitrite, nitrate, and ammonia levels can spike inconsistently. Use a quality substrate and upgrade the filter unit if possible to one of higher quality. You may have to modify the hood in order to allow a different filter setup, thus voiding any and all warranties. The lighting is strong enough for my liking considering the tank's size. Overall for around $30 it can't be beat. If size isn't a concern, consider purchasing the 10 gallon starter kit instead. Extra 5 gallons for around the same cost...better to run a larger aquarium than a smaller one if you have the room. Hope this helps! Only one big box pet store competitor carries a starter kit similar to this one at around $20 more. So definitely worth the investment-just get a better filter.FirstLeafPhotography

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser07/22/2013Exceeds All ExpectationsIt's been some time since I have kept fish, so I wanted to start small. I had just purchased a similar 4 gallon tank at Petsmart with the LED lighting, but it costs much more and was a waste of time and money. I ordered this online and it came quickly. The pros of this product are many. Simple set up. I didn't need directions to have this up and running in 30 minutes. As of this writing I am letting the tank cycle, but it's absolutely a perfect home for my betta. I like the lighted hood and I think it will provide enough light for my live plants that in nature can thrive in low light conditions. The filter is wonderful, with two settings. I keep my filter set to low and it's so quiet honestly I can't hear it. You will have to furnish your own heater. For 27 dollars and a few odd cents I have Avery nice home for my fish. Thank you, Walmart!PaulnHuntsville

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser06/03/2013Excellent productThe first thing you will notice about this is that the hood is completely flat and it's looking pretty good, there is no options for cutouts or anything so bear that in mind but there is a slot for a filter so it works out and a small feeding hole, the LEDs are pretty bright it's kinda a nightmare to clip the LEDs into place but once you do it's pretty bright, and you shouldn't ever have to replace it, however bear in mind it's only in the middle so if you use tall decorations it will block the light! They should have a led strand on either side to counter this, the filter is excellent it goes inside the tank and if adjusted correctly totally silent and has a adjustable flow for those bettas or smaller fish, also can be lowered by taking the clip off and putting a suction cup on the back I totally recommend this as it is cheap and has cheap cartridges and keeps the water clear and is way cheaper then the competition , although I'm only using the filter for 3 gallons I might recommend the larger version, oh and the coord kinda doesn't stay in the slot so you might wanna tape it or glue it and that should stay unless I put it in wrongGamer213
