Smooth retrieve
I'm using this combo to fish with live bait and cut bait on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay. I'm impressed with its balance, weight and reliability. Smooth retrieve when fighting a fish or casting. Durable and reliable— and really good looking too. I appreciate how rugged the bail is— it's much more sturdy than other reels I've used. This Penn spinning combo is superior in every way!

Solid, well balanced fishing rod and reel combo
Very well balanced, sturdy and able to use for many different styles of fishing. Used a carolina rig, popping cork, and artificial lure all in one day on the same combo

    Good, but heat up
    The reel is great and very smooth, but the rod was very beat up and the paint was scratched from shipping, and the tip top guide wasn't put on straight

    Penn Battle LE 5000
    I was worried about the combo being shipped, especially the rod but it arrived in good condition. I used it a few days later, but didn't put it to a big test as I didn't catch any larger fish. I was a little disappointed in the casting range, but I was fishing off rocks. Maybe it will do better when I'm sure footed on the beach. Looks good and reels nice like my other Penn combos. One small thing I did not like was that the reel handle is foam and a little smaller vs nice round solid rubber on my other Penn reels. Don't know if it will last and replacement handles aren't cheap.

    Sweet inshore set up
    Used this rod during our inshore sea bass season . Rod has a sweet moderate bend . Really fished jigs well . Looking forward to using it for fluke fishing also

    Had a smaller battle II when I lived in Wisconsin. Moved to NC bought the 10 foot 8000 reel for surf fishing this was the first "fish" I caught on it. 30lb mono and worked like a champ...

    I bought this pole when it came out of the market and became my favorite pole instantly, that i had to buy another one. I always been a penn fishing pole user since I learned how to fish.
